Tangier Travel Guide

I have always dreamt to explore new places around the world because its simply the only thing that keeps your mind peaceful and free.

Traveling is such an enriching experience, where you get to learn to be more patient, to be more curious, to live every moment,
to make friends with strangers and to walk around a new city and explore the beauty of this beautiful world. Finally I gathered the courage to challenge myself and made a new trip happen.

My next destination after my solo travel experience of South Korea was Tangier, a north Moroccan city. To be honest, it wasn't my first visit to this beautiful city but it was the first time I saw things differently. When you are seeking beauty in everything, at that moment, you start living the life and live these precious moments. You are your own strength and do things you feel passionate about. And I am keen on to share what can help others and describes my last experience in Tangier, a beautiful place to visit and not so expensive.

During this experience, my sister and I stayed in "DAR OMAR KHAYAM”. In all sincerity, the staff was so kind and helpful. The rooms were so clean and I can’t suggest anything wrong about it. Especially the location was so near to the places I had planned to visit. Budget for accommodation: 3 nights for 1229 MAD for two (two single beds) which includes the breakfast and includes facilities like hot shower, air conditioner and a TV.
PS: Check in start from 2pm and check out at 12 pm.

First Day

We arrived at 2pm exactly, we check-in our booking and took an hour rest and then we visit walking to:

Medina

Tangier's Medina (Old City) tumbles down the cliff towards the ocean in a labyrinth of narrow alleyways. The central vortex of Medina life is the square known as the Petit Socco, where old men sit for hours drinking tea and playing backgammon. During its fast-paced past, the Medina was a playground for author Paul Bowles and America's legendary Beatnik literary figures such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs. Wandering around this area is a must for Tangier visitors.

Kasbah

The Kasbah, where the sultan once lived, dominates the Medina's northern section. The gate opens onto a large courtyard, which leads to the Dar el-Makhzem Palace and the modern-day Kasbah Museum. The palace was built in the 17th century and enlarged by each reigning sultan.
The carved wooden ceilings and marble courtyard showcase the intricacies of Moroccan craft-work. Also in the Kasbah is the infamous Cafe Detroit, which became a haunt for the visiting and expat writers, artists and hangers-on in the 1960s.

Kasbah Museum

The Kasbah Museum brings together an amazing number of exhibits tracing Morocco's history. The Antiquities Collection brings together finds from Roman sites such as Lixus and Volubilis and includes a life-size model of a Carthaginian tomb. There are also displays explaining Tangier's history and a large section devoted to Moroccan arts. The Fes Room is particularly interesting, containing silks and illustrated manuscripts as well as centuries-old ceramics decorated from golden yellow to the famous Fes-blue.

Bab Bhar

From here, you can get a good view of Tangier and the moroccan traditional buildings making this place spectacular.

Ibn Batouta Mall

New mall in the town, not that big but still good place to explore, my sister and I liked the coffee shop 'COSTA' where you can have a big coffee cup for 29 MAD, totally worth!

Second Day

Park Perdicaris

Transportation cost: In front of Mohamed V Mosque, there are taxis to take you to Parc Perdicaris for 5 MAD per person.
A wonderful park, reminded me of Jeju Island which was my last destination in South Korea. Beautiful landscape, so clean with ample space to move around and enjoy. Really it's a good hangout for a picnic with good nature & beautiful weather.

Caves of Hercules

Transportation cost: From Parc Perdicaris, you can take Taxi for 27 MAD to the Caves of Hercules.
One of the Tangier landmarks and it is not only a beautiful piece of nature, it is also rich with history. The view of the sea from the cave opening is stunning. I had the chance to wear Traditional north moroccan costume, and took us back to the time of how beautiful the clothes were.
Here we took our lunch for 105 MAD for two people - Salad, fried potatoes and Moroccan Tagine.
Back to the Iberia in taxi, just near the Caves for 10 MAD per person.

Sour AL Meêgazine

This small square offers a magnificent view of the whole strait and Spain. A long time ago, the freight carriers, made a quick break before reaching the souk.

Mexique street

A good place to get good deals for shopping with so many choices.

Tangier City Mall

Transportation cost: Its near to the train station and costs only 5 MAD by taxi from Mexique Street

Third Day

The last day, we went to Fnideq a small  city, around 70km from Tangier. It took us an hour or less to reach there. An amazing city where you can have amazing deals for shopping or you could just walk around this white & blue city.... Enjoy the simplicity and the beauty!

My vacation in Tangier was so inspiring, helped me to get back with new perception and motivated me to keep living my dreams, live this happy life which I love and ignore all the negative energies.

Seek your happiness <3.
